#635 New York Fashion Week – Art Hearts Fashion

Happy Thursday!

This mamma’s been one crazybusy bird and not following her own guidelines (which is to be timely with her featured posts).  In fact, I was just remarking to my fellow blogger colleague Tineey, at Tuesday's Tabelog event, of how my writing simply cannot keep up with my life right now.  #bloggerproblems.

At any rate – even though I’m happily settled in sunny Florida yet again, last Thursday I was in the frosty tundra that is New York City, toasting the dual celebration of the last night of New York Fashion Week (via the Art Hearts Fashion runway show presented by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation) and the kick-off of Chinese New Year via tasting at Annisa.  

These are some of my favorite photos from the runway (all taken by yours truly with my trusty Canon Powershot SX40 HS).  The entire line-up of the night was incredible, but I thought that Michael Costello absolutely KILLED it with his grand finale. 

Many thanks to my girl New York a la Keiko (blogterview here) for hooking me up with seats at the Fashion show!!!!!  Lucky girl, I am.

#627 BCBGMAXAZRIA Runway Fall 2015 – New York Fashion Week

Greetings from Sunny Florida! 

Between you and me, I’m actually quite amazed that I managed to make it out of snowy Boston last night (it was really looking quite bleak at the airport).  Nevertheless, we took off and landed in the land of palm trees, sunshine, and no-frills.

Speaking of frills, I am a bit disappointed that I won’t be able to attend the festivities of New York Fashion Week (which officially kicked off yesterday).  For one thing, I would have loved to go to the Naomi Campbell-hosted event tomorrow “Fashion for Relief,” in support of the fight against Ebola.  My fellow blogger buddy, Keiko, of New York à la Keiko, even offered me tickets to the Monique Lhuillier show tonight (swoon swoon), which I heard was absolutely breathtaking, but alas – you can’t be everywhere all at the same time.

Thank goodness for live streaming and updates, which allow me to get in oodles of weekend mommy-time with my munchkin, while still keeping abreast of the latest fashion news from #MBFW. 

In the meantime, I wanted to share with you my favorite looks from the BCBG show yesterday – which marked the start of fashion week, and also formally illuminated my person design aspirations for the moment. 

I’ve always liked BCBGMAXAZRIA, and I find their Fall 2015 collection to be absolutely divine!  It’s stylish, eclectic, glamorous and luxe, with just the right touch of exoticism thrown into the mix.  I heart the entire thing, and I never thought that leather, silk, fringe and wool meshed so well!  The color palette very much suits my own wardrobe aesthetic (lots of greys, beige, weights, with a splash of attention-seeking maroon), and the entire look is very gamine-chic, and so completely what I would rock on the streets of downtown Manhattan.

My favorite #NYFW collection so far -- Zimmermann SS15 Ready-to-Wear

I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled on fashion-week trends worth noting, and I must say – I’m a big fan of the SS15 Zimmermann collection, brought to you by the Australian designers Nicky and Simone Zimmermann.  It’s chic, bold, nouveau, and exciting… and unlike many of the fashion you might see on the runway at New York Fashion week since it kicked off on Thursday, it is all completely wearable! 

I tell ya, if money were no object, I would completely snag at least half of the collection for my own wardrobe.

Best of all, it is all so tastefully done and romantic.  Just goes to show how the Aussies can get it so incredibly right!!! (Okay, I officially forgive you for the train-wreak that is “the Real Housewives of Melbourne”).

#568 New York Fashion Week – Ready Set Go!

This busy (and finally recovering mamma) took a break today and headed uptown to the Runway Ready Room, brought to you by PRIV, Yosi Samra, and GiGi New York – arguably the most delightful trifecta of yumminess. 

I must admit, it’s nice to leave my piles of paperwork and mommy duties behind for a little glamour and beauty treatment.  And what better place to do it than at the suite of the iconic Empire Hotel, right across from Lincoln Center, at the heart of all the NY Fashion week action.   (Funnily enough, yours truly was just here last week with Nuke baby at the Lincoln, as the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Tent had just gone up).

The best part?  I got my own personalized leather clutch from GiGi New York, plus a pair of Samara leather flats from Yosi Samra in neon that will so fantastically pop with my summer tan!  I can’t wait to rock these beauties for my girl-trip in Montauk next weekend!!!

Now… onwards to more avant fashion for New York Fashion week.

So fun! The last time I had anything monogrammed was at the Louis Vuitton Champs-Élysées during Paris Fashion Week.  That was last March while I was 16 weeks pregnant, might as well be a lifetime ago!!

Quite possibly my favorite two looks out of the entire collection! I would rock these two pieces in a heartbeat.

Part of the reason why I love NY Fashion Week so much (besides the obvious glamour and style) is the ability to learn something new.  My recent obsession – the up & comer Clover Canyon by L.A. based designer Rozae Nichols – is not to be missed!! (Is it just me or are Californian designers killing it these days?  Think Rodarte, Libertine, Jennie Kayne… just to name a few). 

The look, the silhouette, and the imaginative patterns (purportedly inspired by SoCal’s landscape and architecture) is amazing and totally up my alley.  It is fun, with a touch of whimsy and artistry, and reads high-fashion.  I simply cannot get enough!  One thing is for sure, Nichols definitely has a good understanding of how to manipulate graphics so as to enhance, conceal, and flatter a woman’s shape.  Plus, her technique with materials is also quite commendable.  Bring me some of Clover Canyon’s art-to-wear please!

Happy hump day!  I should have posted these pics long ago… but between travel and work, and some upcoming travels for work – well, lets just say that I’m running a little bit out of steam!

Right before we took off for Bermuda, I went and checked out the Carolina Herrera collection at Lincoln Center during New York Fashion week.  It was full of elegance, class, and femininity, everything that I would have expected from the 74-year old Venezuelan beauty/powerhouse (hailed as “Fashion’s First Lady,” and she still looks so fab!).  True to form, there were lots of full skirts, small hour-glass figures, and beautiful movements of fabric.  As I gazed upon the bright hues of those long and flowy cocktail dresses, I couldn’t help but wonder – where would I wear this to if I had such an opportunity?

In what little spare time I have these days, I’ve been trying to keep on top of fashion week in New York.  There is definitely a lot of information overload out there, and not necessarily always fresh.  However, I’ve been absolutely intrigued with Concept Korea (which debuted last week, pre-Nemo).

Apparently, each year, a handful of designers (five to be exact), are selected to present their work at fashion week.  I’ve been increasingly intrigued with Korean designers in general, because I find their work to be quite cutting-edge, and deviates from the norm as we know it.  I also find, quite frequently, that some of my best street styles were shot with either Korean dressers, or Korean designers. 

Out of the range of designs I saw, I would say my absolute favorites were those by Choi Bok-ho, with his sleek, black and white designs that redefines chic, and the designs of Lie Sang Bong, whose look I absolutely adore and would happily wear anyday.  

It's always nice to find Asian infulences in high-fashion, particularly when it's executed well.  One thing is for certain, I am definitely going to try to make it to the next Concept Korea show!

#288 Glam Rock by DVF (NYFW 2013)

 “Simplicity and sexiness, that’s what people want. At a price that’s not outrageous,” Diane Von Furstenberg (1976). 

True to her own statement, DVF delivers yet again with her Fall 2013 collection at New York Fashion Week, which debuted yesterday in the aftermath of Nemo, just hours before the Grammys. 

Part resort, part Studio 54, and definitely all fab – here are some of my favorite pieces.  I am loving the saturated colors, vibrant prints, and fine detailing.  I think the pantsuits would be my favorite pieces, coupled with some fun accessories – that blinged out knapsack for instance!  (Though I must admit, I don’t quite get those futuristic glasses).

My other favorite quote by DVF: “It’s time to become a myth,” which she announced on her 40^th… what a gal!

Finally on the mend and feeling better – I went and checked out the Rachel Zoe Spring 2013 collection from the runways of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week today.  There was even a short interview with Rachel just before kick-off, where she was her usual sassy self.  She’s actually much prettier and more charming in person than I had imagined!

Overall, I was impressed with the stylist/designer’s collection, which served up a nice combination of uptown elegance and downtown street-chic… all the while staying very much true to Zoe’s own sense of aesthetics – call it Boho for grown-ups.  There were some black and white classics, breezy chiffon maxi dresses, brights and tailored separates, glitzy resort wear, and not a shortage of fabulous hats and belts.  Oh… and the letter “R” of Rachel fell off towards the end of the show… OMG!!

Collection by Melinda Eng

I was recently invited to attend a fashion benefit (held on June 7) for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  Not only was the event in the name of a good cause, it also happened to be a fantastic forum to showcase the lovely 2012 eveningwear collection by Melinda Eng (double score!!).

Of the entire collection, there were a few key pieces which particularly stood out to me, and allowed me to appreciate the elegance and ethereal nature of her design.  I was enchanted by the movement of the fabrics and how the sheer panels were intricately layered and delicately draped (not a single detail overlooked!).  The vibe was opulent, feminine, and romantic – reminiscent of Grecian Goddesses worshipped at the altar.

Thematically, I adored Melinda’s take on animal prints, polka dots, and black and white color scheme – as she incorporates these traditional motifs with a modern twist and a personalized touch of her own.

On my lust list, the standout black gown with sheer white draping (see below)… I want!!!  The only thing that is missing is the invitation to a ball – and prince to take me there… Although I am committed to be a bridesmaid in Rio soon (food for thought!).
