Chambray shirt and necklace: J. Crew
Happy Friday!! What
better way to pass this rainy day than to acquaint ourselves with a bright and
cheery fellow blogger? By this I mean
Ms. Carly Heitlinger of College Prepster – an unabashed Prep Queen whose fun-loving
blog never fails to put a smile on my face!
Not only does she write well, but her zest for life and all things
preptastic can definitely add a spring to your step, the same way a double shot
of espresso does! A self-described “Type
A, quirky, and workaholic” gal, here are some snippets from RockShic’s recent
interview with Carly! Read on!!
Sweater: J.Crew | Polo: Lacoste | Skirt: Vineyard Vines | Flats: Steve Madden | Duffle Bag: J. McLaughlin
RockShic: How long have you been blogging?
Carly:
I started blogging at the very end of 2008 while I was a freshman at Georgetown
University.
RockShic: What
inspired you to start blogging in the first place?
Carly:
When I started blogging, social media was nowhere near what it is today. I'm
actually really thankful for that because it allowed me to truly fall in love
with blogging... without any type of external pressure. Blogging definitely
started as a creative outlet for me – a space where I could talk about light
and fun things. It was a break from, well, college. The transition to college
was really difficult for me, so having my blog as a creative outlet really made
all of the difference.
RockShic: In a nutshell: how would you summarize the
objective/purpose of your blog?
Carly:
I think at the very root of the purpose, I blog because I want to document my
experiences. I was never really one to journal, but for some reason blogging
seemed to click for me. I would write even if no one else was reading.
(Although, I would probably not spend as much time as I do photoshopping
graphics for the posts, haha.)
At
the beginning, the space was completely just for me, and while I still blog for myself upfront, I do take into account what
my readers are interested in! I like to provide well-rounded content. A little
bit of fashion, a little bit of my personal life, a little bit of organization,
a little bit of inspiration...
RockShic: How would you describe your own personal style?
Carly:
Classic, but a little quirky. I'm pretty basic when it comes to getting
dressed. I don't like to spend hours pouring over the contents of my closet and
I definitely like to be comfortable! While I love looking at other people's
personal style... that may be a little bit off the board, I really prefer simple
looks for myself.
RockShic: Can you tell us some of your favorite wardrobe pieces
for the Fall? Winter? What can you do without?
Carly:
Right now, I am loving colored denim! I find that during the colder months I
wear jeans almost every day. Boring! Something
about purple or bright orange jeans though makes it feel like I'm not actually
wearing jeans. (J. Crew's crewcuts jeans are my current favorite!)
RockShic: How would you describe your unique “travel” style?
Carly: It drives me crazy when people say they don't want to look
like a tourist. If you're a tourist, you're a tourist. And you're not fooling
anyone by wearing an outfit you think will make you
blend in! My key is to always wear
tried, true, and tested comfortable outfits. Nothing new! (Wear sweaters you
know aren't itchy and jeans you know don't stretch out and especially shoes
that don't pinch your toes.)
RockShic: What are
some of your favorite places to shop?
Carly: I like to shop everywhere. I can find
cute things that I like anywhere from Target to Neiman Marcus. For me, it
really comes down to the way clothes fit too. Certain brands tend to fit my
body a lot better than others!
RockShic: Currently, what are some of your favorite blogs?
Carly: I LOVE MOM BLOGS. Some favorites are
Emphasis Added and Rockstar Diaries. It's
totally one of my guilty pleasures!
RockShic: What
do you do as your "day-job?"
Carly: I work at an amazing tech
startup called Levo League. I am not a fulltime blogger and never intend on
becoming one. It's really important that I spend time with other people and
especially that I spend time *away* from my blog. Working at the Levo League is also amazing
because there's a "greater purpose" to the organization. It's all
about women helping other women and that is most definitely something I can stand
behind!!!
