As a follow-up to our (much belated) baby #2 announcement… I’m sharing some moments from our recent upstate/woodland retreat. We rented a beautiful house in Hopewell Junction with some friends, which was just a stone throw away from the Chuang Yen Monastery, a Buddhist temple that’s apparently home to one of the largest indoor Buddha statues in the Western Hemisphere (who knew)??
All I remember was that the weather was scorching hot (peak-time mid-August), and this mamma was barely okay. Looking back, I don’t even think that I looked as huge as I felt (these days I look at my belly and literally feel like there’s no more room left, though I also know that we have a ways to go yet as I am a week shy of kicking off my third trimester).
I’m actually quite fond of this yellow-print dress from the NU New York Collection. They have a shop on Spring street that’s right across from DeSalviio Playground, which is frequented by my son (oh, and also right next to Birdbath Bakery (nom nom nom). In fact, most of their stuff, in my view, are quite fantastic for both pre and post-natal (not to mention many stages in btw). Though if memory serves, I loved wearing their stuff most during my second trimester (see here for another NU New York stable that I wore while in Portugal during my last pregnancy).
The first time I wore this dress, I had gone on a brunch and shopping excursion with some colleagues just prior to leaving for our recent trip to Germany in July. I was just shy of my five month mark at that stage, and I hardly looked preggo at all (at least that’s what my kind companions told me! Haha). One of the store clerks complimented me on the dress and asked whether it was Marni… I suppose in looking at the whimsical prints, I can kind of see a similarity…
Sigh – pity there is nothing “office-appropriate” about this dress!
As an extra treat, I’m also attaching some photos of the monastery, which was quite lovely! Definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the neighborhood. There’s a little draw bridge surrounded by a beautiful pond and greenery… perfect for an afternoon picnic and some quiet-time contemplation where we can all ask ourselves, “what would Siddhartha do?”
