Today, hubs and I did something we haven’t done since having a baby – host a BBQ at our apt.
Given that it was the World Cup Final, we felt it was apropos to finally get our act together (i.e. do a thorough clean up and stop using the baby as an excuse) and have a handful of friends over to watch the game. It’s also timely really, since the Nuke is getting a bit older now, and can handle having company over for 4-5 hours at a stretch without a total melt-down (all the better that he managed to go down for a nap just an hour before guests arrived! Talk about great timing!!!).
As I wrote not too long ago, yours truly have been absolutely riveted by the FIFA 2014 World Cup, much to the absolute shock of hubs, friends, colleagues, and to a degree… myself. I’ve followed practically every game, and watched over half of them live. Seeing the World Cup Final, in a way, was a bit bittersweet, as it meant the end of a Summer love-affair of sorts. Though in many respects, I also breathed a sigh of relief, as my productivity of late (particularly during those 4pm afternoon games) have been dwindling and palpably suffering as a result of the games.
I can’t say that I was terribly surprised in the end that Germany won over Argentina during extra-time (they were the stronger and favorite team by far). Though I was impressed with the Argentinian defense, which almost made it seem like we were going in the direction of a penalty shoot-out (which secretly I kinda love). Ultimately though, we could safely say that the best victor won the day.
Plus, what would Brazil have done if its archrival Argentina managed to ride off into the sunset with the coveted 2014 title? #notgood
