As my Thanksgiving weekend draws to a close, I couldn’t help but reminisce about all of the Thanksgivings past. Why, just two years ago we spent this time at the Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, scoping out cheetahs and elephants, and swimming in a whirlpool.
Yes, times have changed, but that doesn’t mean a girl can’t look back at these memories with enormous fondness!
More than anything, I remember the gorgeous landscapes that accompanied our daily outings (safaris always occur twice daily, one in the morning and one in the afternoon when the animals awake)… and the absolute awe-inspiring moment when you see a gorgeous creature glide past your standing vehicle. It is simultaneously breathtaking and humbling – which precisely describes how I felt when I saw the “mating” of two giraffes. See photo below.
It was also a time of bittersweet remembrance for both hubby and I.
I recall how we had just endured some heartbreaking news at home, and desperately needed the getaway to cleanse our minds. At nights, over a warm fire and more than a few glasses of wine, we would lean on the other person and gently reassure one another that everything was going to be okay – because we had each other. It’s easy to get swept away with emotions when you are on holiday, but this safari excursion is particularly special to me because it had brought us even closer.
As a side note, I realize that I had inadvertently given two posts the same “Where the Wild Things are” title – and they couldn’t be further apart in terms of content! (See here and here). Just goes to demonstrate the evolution of life.
Hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with loved ones!
Now, onwards to Cyber Monday.
