Now that the countdown to baby is on, hubby and I have been making extra conscious efforts to get out and about and do some of the things we won’t be able to do for the next few weeks (months, years?!). For him, this mostly entails going to the pub and watching rugby, or heading to our local club to play squash. For me… well a large part entails eating (go figure!).
A few weeks ago, we had a leisurely brunch at Mario Batali’s Babbo in the West Village (110 Waverly Place). It’s been one of those places that I’ve always wanted to try, no doubt ever since it’s rise to fame in the late 2000’s after winning the coveted James Beard award for “Best New Restaurant.” The hype, of course, has died down over the years, but the quality of the food still remains stellar. Brunch is also a nice way to enjoy a three-star meal, since you don’t feel as overwhelmed by the weekend NYC crowds!
Hubby opted for some sea scallops, and I went for broke with the house-made beef cheek ravioli with black truffles. Heavy? Yes. Delicious? Absolutely!!! We ended up splitting the olive oil and rosemary cake with olive oil gelato. I may have had the lion’s share of the dessert course. Believe me when I say... it was worth every savory bite!
As a matter of fat, the New York Botanical Garden is hosting this upcoming awesome event featuring a seasonal family-style dinner with Batali's chefs (including those from Babbo!). The date is August 11th, and I am seriously contemplating going, though I fear that it might be cutting things a bit too close! For more details about the event see here.
