Happy Wednesday!
It’s already the middle of the week (how did this happen?!), and yours truly is one busy mamma-to-be. Although I must say, apart from the occasional waddle and bouts of debilitating heaviness late into the evening (which hubby attributes to my proclivity for multi-course tastings), I’ve been coping surprisingly OK and staying active.
Earlier this week, I went with a girlfriend to check out Wylie Dufresne’s newest restaurant – the hip gastropub Alder, in the East Village. My initial excitement had been severely tempered by mixed reviews from some discerning friends. Nevertheless, I must say that for the evening, Wylie delivered! (Though he was not omnipresent the way he had been when we ate at WD-50).
Some of my favorites – foie gras with watermelon (I mean, yum!), an Asian spin on Pigs in a blanket (with lean, delicious Chinese sausages), and the lovely, silky and rich Clam Chowder. We ended our meal with a bang, with the extremely soft (not to mention extremely delicious!) Root Beer pudding.
All in all, I’d say that it’s a cheaper version of experiencing some indomitable (not to mention highly acclaimed) Wylie force of nature at work – though admittedly pricier than your average cocktail hour grub!
