Happy Independence Day!
Today’s relative peace and quiet allowed me to think back and reminisce on past July 4th, and how we spent the day, particularly over the course of the last three years.
July 4, 2010 was a milestone of sorts for us, as that was the year hubby had returned from overseas, propelling a series of events to occur, all of which brings us to where we are today. We actually spent that July Fourth in Costa Rica – marking one of the most active holidays I’ve had to date (apart from getting my diving certification in Belize).
July 4, 2011 – again, hubby was overseas (hmm I’m seeing a pattern here). Never fear, however, as our wonderful friends from Brazil were in town (and incidentally had gotten engaged!!!), culminating in quite the fiesta.
In fact, my girlfriend and I even managed to pull off a day-time shopping expedition to Woodbury Commons, only to return and host a Fourth of July BBQ at my place (whew!). I was impressed with myself – not to mention exhausted just thinking about it!
July 4, 2012 – featured here. If memory serves, it felt equally insane, leaving hubby and I utterly exhausted at the end of the day (though somehow completely fulfilled). Good thing too, as life got much harder just shortly thereafter.
July 4, 2013 – well… today was a much simpler day. We cleaned, sorted baby stuff, laid low, and ate lobster and crawfish, Cajun-style, at the Boil (yum!). Oh, and watched the fireworks, of course! It was definitely the most chillaxed and low-budget July 4th we’ve experienced in a long time – and in truth, it couldn’t have been more ideal!
Sometimes, you just need to slow down… and I am appreciating this sentiment more and more these days.
