Feb 2010 -- Trinidad & Tobago, in my "African Adulis" costume with Spice Band
I’m super excited for this year's Halloween… namely, for the dress-ups and fantasy aspects of the occasion. In fact, just this week, we bought tickets to attend the “Sleep No More” Halloween Carnival, to be held at the McKittrick Hotel. Fun!!
Of course, whenever I think of Carnival Fetes, I think of two things – Brazil (where I experienced my first Carnival back in 2007 in Olinda), and Trinidad, where we decked ourselves in sequins, feathers & powder and danced (or as Trinis like to say, “wined”) in glitter on the streets all day long, listening to soca music. It was definitely an experience of a lifetime!
I found it most interesting that the formal protocol of Trini Carnival is to wear tights with your costumes! (It's considered inappropriate otherwise).
