Hubby and I were strolling to dinner last night when I saw this lovely lady standing on the corner of Clinton and Stanton. Instantly and like magic, her cool, crisp, and contemporary rendering of a summer jumpsuit caught my eye. In a city where a “heat watch” is par for the course these days, this is a perfect look that conveys a combination of elegance and refreshing grace. I like that the fabric of the jumpsuit flows freely about her, creating a simple composition while at the same time removing all extraneous details from both the texture and pattern – allowing the lines to effortlessly speak for themselves.
The sensitivity with which she accessorizes also conveys a strong element of style and cultural sophistication (not surprising, I suppose, when you’re married to an art historian!). I was particularly touched that she shared with me a little anecdote about her bag, which had her initials imprinted on the fine leather. Ages ago, when she had taken the bag for a fix, the owner of the leather store (located on 33 Greenwich Avenue) offered to personalize it for free! She couldn’t stop raving about the experience… which ultimately convinced me that I needed to take some of my handbags to Joseph Hanna myself!
