Call is a case of imminent nostalgia, or the official onset of Autumn, or just a good old bout of travel envy (with the baby, our movements are a bit more restricted lately, although we did just apply for Nukie’s passport and did successfully undergo our first trip to Saratoga Springs nearly two weeks ago – so there’s hope!).
Whatever the case, I came across some old photos, and started reminiscing about our trip to Mexico for our two year wedding anniversary (I can't believe out five year is coming up!!!). Hubs had just come back from overseas, and I booked us a glorious getaway to Capella Ixtapa, in a beach resort called Ixtapa (right next to Zihuatanejo, famous for its reference in the Shawshank Redemption).
Believe it or not, it was our first foray into Mexico. We had previously shied away from it, thinking that it might be too “resorty” (read: tourist nightmare) and chock full of your typical all-inclusives. Turns out, we were pleasantly surprised! Ixtapa offered us the kind of quiet and peaceful (not to mention ultra-luxe) indulgence we were seeking, and I loved the unpretentious simplicity of the nearby sleepy fishing towns (awesome seafood!).
The only thing I lament is not staying longer. In fact, I recall an epic delay en route (which sadly, made us miss our connection to Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo airport), and then I had to rush back for a series of conferences in Boston. Sigh – all the more reason to return someday!
